It was the end of December when a friend asked me, whether I want to commend the quick peer review time of the publication Detection of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) by real-time RT-PCR. I agreed and was literally wondering how it is possible that a peer-review process can be done that quickly. Given the fact that I have some experience as a journal section’s editor, I started to dive into this matter and found out additional irregularities that I explained in a Twitter thread.
Right after I published this, I received lots of feedback. The negative feedback mainly came from people that are associated with co-authors of that respective paper, so I wrote another Twitter thread to even go more into details.
The peer-review time is really conspicuous. I hope that the Journal ‘Eurosurveillance’ will come up with some good explanations and, if necessary, consequences quite soon.
